Inside the Civic Theatre, students admired the Wharenui Harikoa installation, the stunning large-scale crocheted wharenui (Māori meeting house). Vibrant crocheted tukutuku panels, handcrafted pou, and a bespoke sensory touch wall were inspired from taonga tuku iho (ancestral treasures passed down) and students spotted a Sternschnuppe (shooting star). This was an ideal moment for students to connect their current learning strands in German, with te reo Māori and Te Ao Māori. From the Civic Theatre, our group headed up to Albert Park towards the University of Auckland’s Drama Studio, to watch Lotte's Lästige Leichen (“Lotte’s Annoying Corpses”). This was a hilarious full-German murder‑mystery comedy spoken entirely in German, complete with English subtitles, performed by the German Drama Company - University students. Following the play, students had the opportunity to hear from current University of Auckland students about furthering their German language skills - post high school, exploring degree pathways and discovering exchange programmes with Germany scholarships. It was inspiring to learn about these amazing opportunities.
