Congratulations to the following students who did extremely well, out-calculating several of our neighbouring schools! - Milad Assady - our wonderful Year 9 reserve who stepped in at the last minute! - Yuna Huang (Yr 10) - Fran Ishida – Year 9 runner extraordinaire! - Cooper John (Yr 10) - Thomas King (Yr 10) - Henry Klimetz – another lightning-fast Year 10 runner! - Yi Nuo Li (Yr 10) - Isla Malem – our wonderful Year 10 reserve! - Sofia Maulvurfs – Yr 10 sprinting superstar! - Jibriil Omar (Yr 10) - Koko Riddering (Yr 9) - Ally Sun (Yr 9) - Dylan Tait – awesome Year 9 runner! - Joshua Taylor (Yr 9) - Chelsea Whitten (Yr 9) - Amina Zhang (Yr 10) - Emily Zuo (Yr 9) - Danny Wileman (Yr 9) who was unable to join us due to illness Mathex is a challenging mathematics contest where schools from across Auckland compete against each other in teams to answer questions as quickly as possible, with 20 questions completed in 30 minutes. Upon completing the answer, the team 'runner' literally sprints to the judging table and waits for the 'thumbs up' for a correct answer. If the answer is incorrect, the runner frantically makes their way back to the team, who has to resolve the question. If the answer is correct, the runner brings back the next question to the team ... then runs the answer back to the judges. Making for a fun, frantic event! Held at the Barfoot and Thompson stadium, on Wednesday evening (20 August), with over 70 secondary schools taking part. It was great to see so many parents, whānau, and teacher supporters watching from the stands as teams worked together, to problem-solve and answer questions.
