It is a symbol of their remarkable commitment to stepping into Te Ao Māori - a journey of growth, transformation, and deepening connection. Through their determination to grow and their openness to embrace Te Ao Māori, they have ignited the embers of the fire from a flicker into a steady and enduring flame. This taonga was inspired by the artistry of our own Year 13 student, Noele Banicevich, who designed its intricate pattern, and was brought to life by master carver Carlin Waretini of Ngāti Whātua. Together, they have created a symbol that embodies the warmth, resilience, and enduring spirit of the home fires—fires that must be tended with care, dedication, and determination. This award celebrates a tauira who has walked a path of discovery, strengthening their reo and their understanding of the values and traditions that anchor our culture. With every step, they have shown resilience, humility, and a desire to honour their tūpuna by embodying the spirit of their heritage. In awarding Te Ahi Kā, we recognise and celebrate their courage, growth, and unwavering commitment to carry the spirit of Te Ao Māori in their heart and actions. This taonga carries the flame of their journey forward, a beacon of inspiration for others, wherever they may be. The recipient of this taonga embodies our school’s whakataukī: *He iti, he iti kahikaota* - small, yet mighty like the kahika tree. They represent strength, resilience, courage, and personal growth.
