The date, 14 March (3/14), corresponds with the first three digits of pi (3.14). Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant pi (π), the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159. (It is also Albert Einstein's birthday). GBHS's Maths dept organised a Form time General Knowledge quiz, with House points and prizes for the top form classes. A Pi memorisation contest took place, to see who could recite the most digits of pi - with more House points and prizes. And...of course...Pi(es) were for sale - to collect more House points, with all proceeds ($200) donated to Vision West. Congratulations to the following students for their outstanding results reciting Pi: 1. Daniel Colquhoun (P13MSH) 200 Digits (!!) 2. Kenan Allen (M10MGN) 86 digits 3. Harri Leys (A9KEE) 76 Digits 4. Sophie Goldstone (A9BMY) 68 Digits 5. Miriama Brown (K9DAF) 55 Digits Pi general knowledge quiz results: - 1st: K10HKL - 2nd: K11BAR, W11FRS - 3rd: P10TWN, W9HWL, A9BMY, W10DSZ, P10PVY It was a fantastic day, and we would like to thank all those students who helped us celebrate.
