WORLD CHAMPS:

Did you know that Green Bay High School's Year 9 Dean, Gabbie Perry, not only teaches sports - but plays sports (and refs) at an elite level too?

Gabbie has recently returned from a prestigious referee position in Malaysia.

"I was proud to be selected as a Referee Assessor for the 6th CMAS Underwater Hockey Age Group World Championships held in Kuala Lumpur from the 19th to the 28th of July," says Gabbie.

"This was another tournament doing something I love, giving back to sport and making international Underwater Hockey tournaments accessible to amazing young people by refereeing."

Gabbie's role involved working with international referees to help develop their skills and provide feedback to improve their performance.

"It was fantastic to see the whole team grow over the tournament," says Gabbie, adding "The referees who were in my team were from all over the world including Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, Turkey, Colombia and China."

The New Zealand teams did a fabulous job, as seen in the results listed below:

• New Zealand U19 Women's - Bronze
• New Zealand U19 Men's - Championship Winner Gold
• New Zealand U24 Women's - Championship Winner Gold
• New Zealand U24 Men's - Championship Winner Gold
