Tūrangawaewae - Our Place to Stand

Thursday, 17th November 2022 at 11:50am

2022 saw the introduction of the inaugural Kōtuitui Writers' Challenge. After several challenging years that forced schools to largely work in isolation, students were challenged to reflect on the one thing that unites us all- our community- and more specifically, their place within it.

Participants shared their interpretations of Tūrangawaewae through various modes of writing. Judges were overwhelmed by both the number, and the quality of the entries. A huge congratulations to all participants, and in particular to those who placed in each category.

Ngā mihi nūnui ki a koutou katoa!

The Kōtuitui Writers’ Challenge was open to all year levels and involved local primary and intermediate schools within our Kōtuitui. Students were invited to write about their own connection to our local area - it could be a place, a person, a memory or any other idea prompted by living in this space. The overarching purpose is to recognise some of our capable students in terms of their literacy across our school communities.

What is Kōtuitui? Kōtuitui is a collaborative relationship between twelve local schools creating a continual learning community in order to help students achieve to their full potential.
