What is Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is a suite of online tools that allows teachers to set assignments, have work submitted by students, to mark, and to return graded papers, creating a seamless workflow for class materials, assessment and feedback. Teachers can post announcements, create assignments, start discussions and share the files and assignment criteria with their classes - helping to streamline assignments, boost collaboration, and foster communication.

Google Classroom assignments

Teachers are able to set assignments and upload documents that explain what is required for set work completion, and also provide extra information and a place for students to complete and submit their work. Students receive an email notification when an assignment is waiting. When a task is finished, the student can submit it for the teacher for marking. Teachers have the ability to provide help along the way and give and recieve feedback to students.

Google Classroom announcements

Teachers can distribute resources, collect in work, mark, and provide feedback efficiently. Teachers can make announcements that go out to the entire class. These can appear on the home screen of the Google Classroom where the students will see it the next time they log in. A message can also be sent out as an email so that everyone will receive it at a certain time. Or it can be sent to individuals who it applies to specifically.

How Does It Work?

Parents/Caregivers can receive email summaries showing your student’s progress in Google Classroom. As a guardian, you must receive and accept an email invitation before you can receive email summaries. Teachers can email you an invitation for each child student. When you accept an invitation, your student receives an email confirmation. NOTE: If you are not currently signed up to receive guardian summaries please email your student’s TEACHER who can then invite you.

Google Site for Whānau / Hybrid Learning

With the implementation of Hybrid Learning (Covid Lockdown/s) Green Bay High School created a Google Site so that whānau have an overview of the work that has been set by their child’s teacher. This information will help whānau to encourage and support their children to continue with their work. The Google Site is a:

  • Community facing ‘view’ of Google Classroom posts
  • Reflection of expected student progress
  • Showcase of the learning activities
