T3 Sports Summary

As Term 3 wraps up, our winter sports season came to an end with plenty to celebrate.
GBHS had close to 40 teams competing across netball, football, basketball, rugby, hockey, table tennis and badminton; the most popular sports being football and netball, which made up 23 of our winter sport teams. A massive thank you to all our coaches, managers and supporters who volunteered time week in and week out for their teams.
Congratulations to our 1st XI Football Girls who finished top of the table in their A2 league. It’s been a long time coming and the girls have worked immensely hard to earn their spot in the A1 league and are now one step closer to that promotion if the 2026 pre-season deciders go our way.
Five of our netball teams had a podium finish for their season. Well done to our 10A and Senior A teams who finished 3rd in their grades; to our 9A and 10 Blue teams who finished 2nd; and to our 10B team who placed 1st.
Our Fencing team, Travis West-Hill, Matias Ureta, Braden Clemmett and Alex Menzies travelled down to Christchurch in Week 7 for the National Competition, and came away with an impressive 3rd place in the entire country. This flowed on from their success in Term 2 after holding their place as the Top Northern Fencing Secondary School for the fourth consecutive year. Congratulations to the boys for their amazing achievement!
The much anticipated winter tournament held in Week 7 gave our top Boys' and Girls' Football teams, and our Premier Netball team, a chance to showcase Green Bay’s sporting talent on a more national level. The Football Boys' team dominated their competition and were robbed of a spot in the Top 4 by some unlucky penalty shootouts, finishing 5th overall. Our Football Girls' team finished 11th in the tournament after an unfortunate rule change left them unable to progress to the Top 8 playoffs, but a great result, nonetheless. Premier Netball finished 17th in their tournament with some tough competition early on, but finished on a high with a 6-game winning streak.
A big shout out to our Sports Council for their time and effort put into running school volleyball and football Euros Tournaments, which have seen great turn outs every time.
While we say farewell and good-luck to our senior students who will sit their exams next term, our junior students have their chance to shine in the Term 4 summer sport season. Participation is always high as students get some much needed outdoor time and embrace the chance to refine their skills ahead of the 2026 summer sport season. We have teams competing in softball, volleyball, cricket, water polo, tennis, futsal, and touch.
So while the school year may feel like it’s winding down, junior sport is just hitting its stride!
