Congratulations to Vihara Jayasinghe (Year 12) who has been awarded a Silver Service Award for her volunteering, having completed 250 hours of volunteering. What is the SVA Service Award?
The SVA Service Award is a platform where secondary school students log and reflect on their volunteering hours. The badges acknowledge the awesome mahi that they do in their community, whether it be their school, family or neighbourhood.

Watching over Waitākere: As part of our Matariki celebrations, GBHS's talented Visual Art students have created nine images representing each of the Matariki stars.
Students have looked at the environmental meanings linked to each star and used this to help inspire a visual depiction.
These are all original photographs taken by our students within our local environment of Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa (The Great Forest of Tiriwa), more commonly known as the Waitākere Ranges. They have also been developing their understanding of typography and how to integrate this into an image to create additional meaning.
Special thanks to Ms Fels for curating these wonderful artworks!

Winning team: 'GBHS German 09' consisted of Jessica Layton, Krisha Karippail, Ruby Morrow, and Max McGregor. Eight of the teams (or 25 of the attendees) were Auckland-wide secondary students Green Bay High School entered four teams.

GBHS is looking forward to celebrating Matariki – a time to remember loved ones, plan for the future, celebrate the present and honour ancestors.

FORM TIME FOCUS: Students are invited to think and reflect on the three principles of Matariki by writing /designing a paper feather for the day. All feathers will be collected and made into two large kākahu / korowai, displayed in the school library.

Some of GBHS's top scholars began calculating their Rank Scores and assessing their eligibility for Scholarships today, under the guidance of our Careers Staff, as part of the regarding applying for Financial Scholarships for the 2023 year. Scholarships are available from a variety of sources and can be used towards the cost of study at various levels. Financial Scholarships do not affect a student's eligibility for the Fees Free first year of study. Students and whānau have been sent an email with a copy of the application process.

GBHS has celebrated Pride Week and International Languages Week - ending with a Pride Parade today at lunchtime. Dress in Rainbow colours - remember to bring a gold coin donation. All money raised will go to Rainbow Youth and InsideOUT. Check out the informative displays in our school library!

Learning practical letter-writing skills may seem a thing of the past, due to emails, texts, and other digital messaging platforms. But this is not the case for Year 9 students in class K9ELL, who have written letters to their pen pal (Yr 9 students at another school). Today the class was delighted to receive some 'real' mail and were thrilled to open their responses from their pen pals.

Students have created their own Business website 'MARKETPLACE' allowing you to order directly from their online platform.

A Market will also be held at school on Tuesday 21 June, in the Library courtyard, for GBHS students to view the wares and purchase some goodies (remember to bring cash).

Do you have an Ulterior Motive? GBHS does! And we are very pleased to announce they have qualified for the SmokeFreeRockQuest regional finals!
'Ulterior Motives' original song, called ‘Why’s the World this Way?’ was performed on stage at the Auckland heats last weekend. Ulterior Motive was selected as one of the top 12 bands to go through to the regional finals. As you can imagine, they are "super stoked!"

Ulterior Motives next steps are to film and submit a live performance, in order to have a chance at going through to the semi-finals. The band would like to say a "big thanks to our amazing music teachers who have helped us get to where we are".
